Program Details: FM/EM
The Jefferson Health Northeast FM/EM combined residency is a unique 5 year community based program. It is designed to provide the FM/EM resident exceptional and well-rounded training - the breadth and patient-centered focus of Family Medicine, along with the acumen and dexterity of Emergency Medicine. The program also offers rotations in a mixture of rural, suburban, urban, and international settings. Jefferson Health NE is dedicated to comprehensive and accessible healthcare to Philadelphia and Bucks County.
The program is accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). Residents complete both ABFM (American Board of Family Medicine), AOBFM (American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine), ABEM (American Board of Emergency Medicine), and AOBEM (American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine) in-service exams. Residents can choose either or both board certification exams for FM and EM after the successful completion of their residency program. Moreover, FMEM residents receive comprehensive training in ultrasound and receive accreditation upon residency.
The program is designed with rigor and flexibility in mind. It emphasizes on in-patient medicine in the first year and allocates more blocks for elective rotations in the subsequent years. Family Medicine Practice (FMP) hours start at a half day per week in the first year, and increases later in the program.
Below is an overview of 5 year curriculum, followed by a listing of available electives. We have also included major rotation sites and affiliate hospitals.
