Winter Light Videos

These videos were taken on days during December and January when the light conditions happen to be perfect. There needs to be strong sunlight and a certain amount of wind between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. so that when the light comes through some tall cedars and enters the south windows of my house this unique lighting situation occurs. The wind must be active to create the dancing effect of the sunlight. I set up objects to take advantage of the movements and the beauty of the light playing across their surfaces. This is actually more difficult than it sounds because often at that time of year, if it is windy, it clouds up around 3:00 o'clock. I have to pay attention to the weather and be ready on days that are promising and frequently my hopes are dashed by the gathering of clouds or the dying of the wind.

The little devil doesn't quite fit this situation but nevertheless it was taken inside the same room during the winter.

2013 This was my first video in the Winter Light Through Cedars series. It was taken with a Canon 60D camera which gives it a softer look.

2016 What happens in the background and the movement of the cobwebs are significant in this video.
