Big Red Barn. 2016.

In 2016, I had an exhibition at the University City Arts League in Philadelphia, PA, called, Big Red Barn.  Ideas were inspired by summers in Maine; thinking about the relationship between landscape, beauty, and memory.  The works exhibited are purposely slow, with a deliberate sense of change.

The exhibition featured a video, sculptures, and photographs.

Great Pond is a video that portrays its namesake, a lake in Belgrade, Maine. The image in the video is equal parts water and sky, reflecting the experience of sitting on the dock. The video captures three days on the lake at different times: late-days, sunsets, and sunrises.

Floating Clouds was made from Mylar balloons and float throughout the gallery, moving with the room’s light air currents.

Big Red Barn, the title piece of the exhibition, comes from a photographic series of old barns in Maine.  None of them are currently red, but have flecks of red paint peeling.  This projection of past and present reflect for me how imagination and memory are inherently intertwined.
