In 2018, the Philadelphia International Airport renovated their restrooms across four different terminals. At each of these sites was a Percent for Art commission. These renovations enhance the Airport’s ability to efficiently connect travelers to their destinations, provide world-class amenities, and enrich the public’s airport experience through artwork. The airport welcomes more than 30 million annual passengers.

In Nonstop, Arden Bendler Browning created a 17’ long mural that reflects upon the constantly moving environment of the airport. Her use of abstraction suggests passing structures and other elements from the urban landscape. It presents viewers with a series of large, active images that, while derived from places in Philadelphia, could be understood as allusions to other places familiar to travelers.

Ms. Bendler Browning states that the artwork “paints Philadelphia as a thriving hub connecting commerce, recreation, nature, density, and activity through vibrant color, suggested movement through urban and natural space, and a wide range of marks and shapes.”

I served as the Percent for Art Project Manager on this project.
