In 2018, the City of Philadelphia completed a $2.8 million project to bring a new recreation center and playground to the Pleasant Playground. The center has two activity rooms, a multi-purpose room, staff kitchen, restrooms, and office. The center design also featured sustainable elements, including a “green” vegetated roof and energy-efficient HVAC systems.

Coordinates of Play is the result of Mr. Volta’s work with students at AMY Northwest Middle School. Volta and the students created abstract designs that integrate sports imagery with interpretations of the history and identity of the Mount Airy neighborhood.

Mr. Volta states that, “The experimentation process led to the creation of hundreds of geometric designs. The students worked together on a collage of the designs and experimented with changes to the colors and layout, mapping a meaningful and playful learning process.”

I served as the Percent for Art Project Manager on this project.
