Any JackStats user can create a competition but the best way to use this app is to nominate one user to create the competition and for that user to share it with other users and allocate them roles, see Sharing Stats for more information on how to build your community.
Before you begin, make sure your Association is fully configured. This should include:
The season
Age levels (e.g. U12, U14)
Participating clubs
Teams that will compete in the competition
Start by adding a new competition and complete the basic details (name, season, level, etc.).
Competition structure describes how the competition is broken into stages.
You must create at least one stage to proceed.
You can create:
Consecutive stages, which run one after another (e.g. Stage 1.0, 2.0, 3.0).
Simultaneous stages, which run in parallel (e.g. 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 – commonly used for group stages in a tournament).
You do not need to create all stages upfront unless they will run at the same time. Additional stages can be added as the competition progresses.
For each stage, choose whether it is:
Knockout, or
League
If you select a league stage, you will also need to:
Define how league positions are calculated
Choose how tied positions are handled (tie-break rules)
That’s all that’s required to set up a competition.
You can now move on to scheduling matches for the first stage.
Start by selecting the competition stage you want to schedule matches for.
Next, select the teams that will compete in this stage.
You will only be able to select teams from the levels chosen when the competition was created.
Once you begin selecting teams, these levels cannot be changed, so make sure they are correct before proceeding.
Use the manual scheduler to add matches directly, choosing the date, time, and venue yourself.
This gives you full control and is ideal for:
One-off fixtures
Making adjustments to schedules created by the auto-scheduler
Fine-tuning match dates, times, or venues
You can delete manually created matches, but matches linked to a JacksStats match cannot be deleted (see Generate Matches below).
From release 5.0, the auto-scheduler is available for league competitions only.
There are two scheduling modes:
Central Venue – all matches are played at a central venue
Home & Away – matches are played at individual club venues
To use the auto-scheduler, you must provide:
Venue availability
Blackout dates when matches cannot be played
At the competition level
At the team level
Once constraints are set, the system generates a draft round-robin schedule.
This draft can be shared in text or Excel format for review.
You can adjust constraints and regenerate the draft until you are happy with the schedule.
When you accept the schedule:
The auto-scheduler is locked for that stage
It cannot be reused unless the schedule is cleared using the manual scheduler
Once you are happy with the schedule, you can generate matches so they are ready to be recorded in the main JacksStats application.
Important notes:
After matches are generated, changes become more complex
It’s best to generate matches near the end of the scheduling process
You can run this again if you later add additional matches
Generating matches is optional—you can enter results without recording games—but doing so misses the full benefits of the application.
Finally, choose when to activate the stage.
Once activated, the competition stage becomes visible to all users in the competition feed.
If you are recording games then the results are filed by the recorder at the end of the match. If not you can enter them through the results service. Be aware that entering a result will prevent the match being recorded.
Pending matches are those waiting for results
Final matches are where the result has been entered. These can now only be edited in the results service. If the match has been recorded then the result will be updated on the recorded match but may be out of synch with the detailed stat information.
A competition feed has been added as a third option on the Feed (landing page). Only 'Activated' competitions appear here and if you don't own the competition you will need to select the central user account using the sharing icon.
