Italian Association for the Studies on Shell and Spatial Structures
The second edition of the summer school Let's Shape is an advanced training program for engineering and architecture graduate and PhD students, focusing on the design, analysis, and construction of gridshells and other lightweight structures through form-finding techniques. Hosted by the University of Naples Federico II, the program combines theoretical foundations, computational approaches, and hands-on experimentation to provide a comprehensive learning experience.

From the philosopy of structures to the art and science of building" che vide la partecipazione di alcuni eminenti protagonisti all'epoca dell'ingegneria strutturale, fra i quali José Antonio Torroja, erede della tradizione paterna, Heinz Isler e Jörg Schlaich, con il coordinamento di Franco Levi, Mario Alberto Chiorino e Clara Bertolini Cestari.

Minisymposium on Shell and spatial structures at AIMETA2024
We are pleased to invite all IWSS enthusiasts to participate to the minisymposium MS 04_Shell and spatial structures at the AIMETA2024 to be held in Naples, Italy, on September 2-6, 2024.
MS04 - Shell and spatial structures
This MS invites contributions on designing, modeling, analyzing, and constructing shell and spatial structures. Topics cover tension and membrane structures, framed and lattice structures, gridshells, shell roofs, masonry arches and vaults, tensegrity structures, pneumatic and inflatable structures, active, deployable and morphing structures, and various materials like concrete, metal, timber, and bio-based alternatives.
We hope to see you in Naples.
Villa Monastero, Varenna - Lake Como - July 2 3 - 2 6, 2 0 2 4
The summer school offers a comprehensive exploration into the innovative realm of structural design, focusing on form-finding techniques and the application of shells, vaults and prestressed structures. Participants will gain proficiency in building the designed shapes supported by computational tools and parametric design software. Students will possess a deep understanding of the principles governing form finding and preliminary structural design, enabling them to tackle complex architectural challenges with creativity and confidence.

The GIMC SIMAI Young 2024 aims to provide young scientists (aged ≤ 35) with a platform to exchange their most recent results, stay current on new trends, and foster meaningful interactions within the framework of computational mechanics and applied and industrial mathematics. The program will include plenary lectures, a dedicated session for recipients of the GIMC-SIMAI young awards, parallel thematic sessions and poster showcase.
The event is the result of the joint venture of GIMC (Gruppo Italiano di Meccanica Computazionale) and SIMAI (Società Italiana di Matematica Applicata e Industriale) and it is set to take place in Naples on July 10-12, 2024.
The IWSS 2023 has been held in Turin on 26th - 28th June 2023.
The technical program of IWSS 2023 includes three days of keynote lectures and talks regarding experimental and theoretical studies, analysis methods and approaches for the design, computational form finding, structural optimization, manufacturing, testing and maintenance techniques and historical reviews of all types of shell and spatial structures. These may include, but are not limited to, tension and membrane structures, framed and lattice structures, gridshells and active-bending structures, shell roofs, tensegrity structures, pneumatic and inflatable structures, active and deployable structures, concrete, metal, masonry, timber and bio-based, spatial structures.
