Our Philosophy
Quality Area 1. Educational Program and Practice
We are committed to implementing and embedding the principles and practices set out in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) into our program. We believe that through these frameworks that the early years is a time when exploring the notion of “being”, “belonging” and “becoming” are essential to the development of identity, cognitive reasoning and wellbeing. We imagine that early childhood is a time of wonder, discovery, and deep connection. We believe every child is special and unique, full of curiosity, and deserves a strong connection to their environment.
Our philosophy focuses on a play-based curriculum, where inclusiveness, exploration, community involvement and communication are central to learning. We celebrate their eager nature and encourage them to find their voice. We create an environment rich in resources and nurturing curiosity that inspire children to be confident and engaged. Our routines are flexible and have a strong focus on a rhythm routine, where our day runs according to the children’s needs and interests rather than a time. We embrace every moment, fostering a happy and nurturing atmosphere for all.
Quality Area 2. Children’s Health and Safety
Eden Academy Isle of Capri are committed to providing a healthy and safe environment which protects children from harm, reduces the spread of illness, and supports their development by allowing children to explore and learn confidentiality. For us to achieve a safe environment our educators adhere to strict supervision plans and ratios are maintained at all times.
Our centre will provide children with a healthy menu daily, as we believe it’s important to teach children healthy eating habits and promoting overall well-being. Allergies and cultural preferences will also be implemented and followed.
Quality Area 3. Physical Environment
We view each child as capable and creative learners, and we respect their agency by encouraging them to make choices, express their ideas, and take the lead in their own learning journeys. We support this by ensuring that the physical environment is safe, age appropriate, and provides a rich and diverse range of experiences that promote children's learning and development. We aim to organise both the outdoor and indoor spaces to support each child’s learning and development, maximise children's engagement and is inclusive.
Our Focus is to embed and promote sustainable practices by incorporating recycling, gardening, composting and using re-usable materials. By practising sustainability, it empowers children to construct knowledge, explore values and develop respect and an appreciation of their environment and its relationship to their world.
Quality Area 4. Staffing Arrangements
We as a service strive to ensure that we provide professional, qualified and experienced educators and a management team who can build a warm and respectful relationship with children, create a safe and predictable learning environment, and encourage active participation with the children. To achieve this, we have a comprehensive hiring and onboarding system in place to ensure we have the right educators in the correct roles and that all educators have been provided with the necessary training and tools to be successful in their roles. Management has a strong focus on continuity of staff as this assists with building bonds and relationships and ensuring enough staff are rostered each day to ensure ratios are always maintained.
Quality Area 5. Relationships with Children
Our centre ensures that relationships with children are responsive, respectful, and promote a sense of security and belonging in children. Such relationships allow children to explore the environment and engage in play and learning. Our educators are nurturing, dedicated, and hardworking, with a deep commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where all children are treated with dignity and respect. We support children in regulating their own behaviour, responding appropriately to others' behaviour, and communicating effectively to resolve conflicts. Our educators bring creativity, empathy, and patience to every interaction, fostering resilience and kindness in every child. With diverse backgrounds and skills, our team values equality, open communication, and a strong respect for each child’s culture.
Quality Area 6. Collaborative partnerships with families and communities
At the heart of our philosophy is the belief in the absolute importance of responsive and reciprocal relationships. We believe in building strong connections with families, and fostering partnerships through open communication, listening, observing, and interacting with families. We recognise and respect that the family is the child’s first, and most important teacher. Parents are viewed as partners, collaborators, and advocates for their children. We value and invite parent input into every aspect of the curriculum, and we acknowledge and celebrate the diverse backgrounds of each family.
Relationships of this nature are grounded in mutual respect between all members of our centre creating supportive and loving learning environments, and a place where everyone can reach their full potential. We believe our centre is their home away from home and everyone that enters our home can expect to receive a warm and friendly greeting. We aim to make the transition from home to centre as smooth and meaningful as possible for both child and parent/guardian. Above all, we aim to protect, trust and commit to nurturing your child’s growth in a safe, loving space.
We believe in fostering strong relationships within our community, embracing involvement through engaging excursions, incursions and being present within our community. We value the importance of learning about First Nations cultures and honouring all cultures with a spirit of inclusiveness and connection. Our aim is to create a space where every child feels a sense of belonging, and where cultural diversity is celebrated and respected. Families are encouraged to share their culture, language and experiences with educators. We advocate for the Convention on the Rights of the Child and recognise the important role we play in partnering with families and children to advocate for rights of the child and ensure a fair and equitable approach to all. We value the diversity of Australian culture and believe in closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people through awareness and education.
At Eden Academy Isle of Capri, we respect the owners of the Kombumerri land, past elders, present and emerging. We believe in inclusiveness, we welcome and embrace cultural diversity, respecting families’ diverse values, beliefs, cultural backgrounds, traditions, life experiences and knowledge.
Quality Area 7. Governance and Leadership
At Eden Academy Isle of Capri, we have a clearly defined governance structure in place, which ensures children are provided with a high quality of education and care. Our Centre Manager ensures that all administrative systems continually support the operation of high quality education and care for all children and supports quality improvements.
Our Educational Leader helps to guide and support staff in their development and implementation of the Educational Program and Practice. Our service promotes an open-door policy whereby families are supported and encouraged to provide feedback on governance arrangements, administrative systems and educational program and practices.
As a learning community, our service is well organized, follows policies and procedures, maintains records, shares values, follows clear directions and have systems in place to protect confidential records and we update our Statement of Philosophy yearly.
