Gender-based violence and femicide event
On the 24th of November 2023, representatives of the Inside-out Outside-In Engaged Scholarship Project Team was honored to attend the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Femicide event hosted by Ms. Doris Mojapelo, educationalist at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre. This gathering was a convergence of various organisations, each contributing significantly to raising awareness about gender-based violence.

Data collection in correctional centres can present you with numerous challenges. You need to know the specific procedures and required permissions to gain access. Inside-out Outside-In, an engaged scholarship initiative of the University of South Africa, presents a webinar that will take you through the various procedures.
The webinar will be presented by well-renowned speakers, both local and international, on topics relevant to data collection in corrections, such as applying for permission from the Department of Correctional Services to gather data in correctional centres.

Career Day at the Sun City Correctional Centre
The UNISA Inside-Out Outside-In Corrections Group visited the Sun City Female correctional centre in Johannesburg for the Career Day event, held on the 22nd of August 2023, under the theme, ‘education as a way to rehabilitation and building a better future’. The purpose of this event was to provide offenders with valuable insights into various career paths, present to them the various qualifications offered by UNISA and how to study with UNISA, apply for NSFAS, study online, and equip them with the information they need to make informed decisions about their future careers.

The event was themed "Defying the Odds of Incarceration: A Decade of Resilience," reflecting the unwavering determination and success achieved by the project over the past ten years

We are thrilled to introduce the world to the 2024 Global Freedom Fellows!
These 16 formerly incarcerated leaders come from 13 countries and five continents. They have already done groundbreaking justice work in their home countries; now they're poised to come together in South Africa to do transnational work as part of the Fellowship program.

Inside-Out Outside-In Celebrating 10 years of service Defying the Odds of Incarceration: A decade of resilience
Established by colleagues in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Africa, Inside-Out is an information sharing engaged scholarship initiative that focuses on the development of tertiary education opportunities for incarcerated students, issues of social reintegration, as well as criminal desistance and issues relating to post-incarceration.

The Inside-Out Team held its first quarterly Postgraduate M & D Networking Session for the year 2023 on the 7th of June. This session was aimed at providing M&D students involved with corrections related research studies with important information that can make their academic journey easier to navigate and creating an interactive space for students to share their corrections-related studies.
