Behind bars, in correctional centres around the word, there are forgotten individuals. As part of an already relegated group, members of minority communities who are incarcerated often experience many inequities and biases. Inside-Out Outside-In, as a community engagement project at the University of South Africa (UNISA), along with the Chief Albert Luthuli Research Chair, and members from Just Detention International-South Africa, with support from the National Institute of the Human and Social Sciences, present a webinar series that will explore the lived experiences and stories of these communities

Team members from Inside-out presented their research at the 9th International Conference for Community Psychology hosted in person and virtually by the University of Naples Federico II in Italy. PhD Candidate Gloria Makhuza presented her work on "Social Reintegration as a bridge that connects female ex-offenders to their communities and other external facilities", while Dr. Bianca Rochelle Parry presented on "Connecting to carceral communities: Community Psychology perspectives on digital and gender inequality impacts on accessibility and inclusivity for incarcerated students in South Africa".
Just Detention International – South Africa (JDI-SA) and The Agenda Network are launching the Film, Vusi: "I Survived Sexual Abuse in Prison”. The film, which was produced by JDI-SA and The Agenda Network, is streaming on The Agenda Network's Facebook and Youtube channel
It truly was surreal and as I walked the stage to receive the conferring of my degree, I rose up the picture frame I held in my hand of my dearly departed parents and cried out, “This is for you mum and dad, this is for you.”

So, in summary, can it be concluded that the “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence?” My response is still no because when you water your own grass and “live on both sides of the fence, [your] grass is always green” (Sir Ben Kingsley, Lucky Number Slevin).

On 24 June 2022, members of the Inside-out Team were invited to attend the Youth Day Celebrations and empower youth offenders at the Emthonjeni Youth Centre in Baviaanspoort Correctional Centre.
