For my final project I would be interested in researching deeper into how to evaluate scholarly value, specifically in the humanities. I am especially interested in how this influences tenure and promotions in this humanities disciplines. For instance, are there specific methods put in place to assess scholarly value? What do these guidelines look like? Are these values similar to how scholarly value is evaluated in the natural sciences? What are the criteria for evaluating monographs? This is not a topic I know too much about, but it does intrigue me because I think it could shed a lot of light on common practices within academia across disciplines.


This would be interesting. It may be challenging as it's very qualitative judgement driven by faculty in field. Not sure how easy it will be to discover...
