NDAA Burlington Bike Path Exercise Program

This program was created to demonstrate exercises utilizing the accessible workout stations along the Burlington Bike Path and to provide examples of workouts that incorporate the beautiful recreation space at the waterfront of Lake Champlain. The exercises can be used individually to target specific areas of weakness or in combination to create a full-body workout. We hope that you find this material helpful and that it serves as the beginning of a larger project with the NDAA to promote health and exercise within the Burlington community.

overview + Things to consider

The exercises outlined in this material target a variety of purposes and applications. You may not feel all of the exercises are appropriate for your ability level so feel free to adapt and scale any of the included recommendations. We intended to provide examples of how you can get creative with your workouts on the Burlington Bike Path and to promote exercise an exercise plan that targets all ability levels.

Things to consider:

  • Many of the exercises in this program require a TheraBand to complete. They come in different colors to represent different resistances. You can buy TheraBands at almost every sporting goods store, Walmart, or online. They were included in this program because they are lightweight and easy to put in your pocket between stations. All stations have bars that you will be able to wrap the TheraBands around.

  • There are a few included exercises that use small dumbbells. As this piece of equipment is not required for the workouts, occasionally bringing them with you will add variety to your workouts.

  • There are already some accessible exercises on the instructional boards at each station. We covered most of those exercises in this material but feel free to follow the instructions on the board as well.

  • We want to incorporate the space around the stations as much as the stations themselves. The sections of bike path in between the stations will be included in the proposed workouts.

  • The proposed workouts start and stop at different stations. Make sure you know what station you're going to!

  • Have fun! The updated Burlington Bike Path is a beautiful space. Enjoy your time there and make exercise fun!
