Letter and number formation can be tricky for some children and in particular remembering the orientation of these symbols. Below are some activities that can help with creating different types of memories of letters and numbers and how to form them.

Have your child write the letter or number as many times as they can in one minute. If your child is not stressed by timed activities, this can be made into a fun race where your child can challenge themselves to improve their score over subsequent days or challenge another family member.

Have your child use their pointer finger to trace letters numbers on different surfaces such as a carpet or sand to create a tactile memory of how a letter or number is formed.

Give your child a sheet with a large letter or number number (the one you would like them to work on for example) written on it. Mark a starting point as well as arrows to show which way the letter or number is written. Provide your child with small dot stickers (available in any stationery shop) and have them make the number by using the stickers to cover the line and form the letter or number. This is also a good activity to practice fine motor skills.
