Each competitor is required to bring an executed (signed) copy of the required Code of Conduct form at check-in. The Code of Conduct shall be signed by each competitor and parent/guardian. The Code of Conduct form is included and at the bottom of the Boat Inspection Checklist (Located in the Boat Inspection Checklist Tab).
I-LYA is committed to each competitor’s success in learning and competing within a caring, responsive, and safe environment that is free of discrimination, violence, abuse, hazing and bullying. I-LYA is dedicated to ensure that all competitors have the opportunity and support to perform to their fullest potential and have a positive experience at this event with the other racers, coaches, parents, support persons and event volunteers. All competitors are to feel that they are in a safe and friendly place, will be treated with respect and will receive help and support from respectful, caring fellow racers, coaches and adults.
Introduction Each I-LYA Junior Championships competitor pledges to uphold the spirit of this Competitor Code of Conduct (Code). The Code offers general principles to guide the conduct of competitors in situations that may occur during the I-LYA Junior Championships. This Code is not intended to establish a set of rules that will, by inclusion or exclusion, prescribe the appropriate behavior for competitors in every aspect of their participation in the Junior Championships.
The competitor agrees to read and become familiar with this Code, and understands that acceptance of its provisions is a condition of participation in I-LYA’s Junior Championships. Competitors who do not conform to this Code will be subject to the consequences of their actions, as specified below. The competitor has a right to a hearing if charged with a violation of this Code.
Enforcing of the Code Compliance with this Code is the voluntary responsibility of each competitor. All those involved with this event are expected to assist a competitor in conforming to the Code. When necessary, enforcement of the Code may occur through hearings and disciplinary action by the Code of Conduct Council and/or the Protest Committee.
Each competitor in I-LYA’s Junior Championships pledges the following:
Participation I will abide by this Code of Conduct
Misconduct I will not commit an act of misconduct, which includes but is not limited to, conduct that is a breach of good manners, a breach of good sportsmanship, damage to others’ property, unethical behavior; or conduct that may bring the sport, my club, this event and me into disrepute.
Drugs & Alcohol From the time I arrive on the island to my departure, I will abstain from possessing, attempting to possess, or using, on or off the water, marijuana or any other controlled substance, tobacco, alternative nicotine products, including but not limited to juuls, or alcoholic beverages as defined by state or federal law.
No Wheels Rule I will abide by the “NO WHEELS” rule. I understand that the hotel is within walking distance of all events. For safety, I will not ride in or on any vehicle of any kind for the entire duration of the regatta, starting at registration on Sunday through the awards presentation and after I have been released on the last day of the event on Thursday afternoon by the OA. I understand that the “NO WHEELS” rule includes (but is not limited to) automobiles, trucks, SUVs, golf carts, skateboards, bicycles, scooters, and rollerblades. Quite simply, if it has wheels, I will not ride on it.
Sexual Abuse & Harassment No one deserves to be sexually abused or harassed and such behaviors are unacceptable not only in sailing but in general. I will not take part in any situations in which other competitors are being abused or harassed. I will make every effort to stop such activities by other junior sailors, coaches or adults at this event, which could include reporting the incident or situation to the Code of Conduct Council. I will abide by US Sailing Regulation 13.04 for Sexual Abuse & Harassment.
Physical Abuse & Assault No one deserves to be mentally or physically abused or assaulted and such behaviors are unacceptable not only in sailing but in general. I will not take part in any situations in which other competitors are being abused or assaulted. I will make every effort to stop such activities by other junior sailors, coaches or adults at this event, which could include reporting the incident or situation to the Code of Conduct Council. I will abide by US Sailing Regulation 13.05 for Physical Abuse & Assault.
Bullying & Hazing No one deserves to be bullied and bullying and such behaviors are unacceptable not only in sailing but in general. I will not be part of bullying or hazing of other competitors at this event. I will make every effort to stop such activities by other junior sailors, coaches or adults at this event, which could include reporting the incident or situation to the Code of Conduct Council. I will abide by US Sailing Regulation 13.06 for Bullying & Hazing.
