Future Jr. Championships

Chair Assignments

I-LYA has a rich history with our junior programs, traveler’s series and Junior Bayweek.   These programs have evolved and grown over the years into a great, strong regional organization that prepares many young sailors for college sailing experiences and a lifelong love of the water.   It is the teams at all our home clubs that make this such a success.

In the past few years, finding an individual, or group of individuals, to chair Junior Bayweek has been a challenge.   We have had a great group of individuals step up through the past years, and consequently the event has been an undeniable success.   However, we find without a succession list for future chairs, we are missing the opportunity to have future chairs learn in the years leading up to running the event.

Since Bayweek is collectively our regatta, all the teams that participate in the I-LYA Junior programs have a shared responsibility to insure the success of this great event. As such the Junior Council leadership has put together a forwarding looking schedule for chairing our junior championships.   The concept here is to alternate clubs by team size/program size.   All active clubs in the I-LYA Junior programming will need to run this event in a future year.  There are several smaller clubs that have not chaired the event in at least 16 years, or at all, and they have been paired together.  This actually sticks fairly close to the lineup from the past 16 years.

While this schedule may need to change some as the years progress, it is our hope to build a solid succession plan and team, so that the yearly work load and learning curve to run the event may become smoother.

Please review the below schedule. Note the year prior to "your" club's assigned chair year, you will be considered co-chairs and will be involved in supporting that year's event.

Thank you all for your commitment to I-LYA Junior Programming.
