Sciences Po Program Exchange

The University of Illinois has a long-standing exchange agreement with Sciences Po, one of Europe's most competitive universities, specializing in the social sciences. This year-long program allows select UIUC undergraduate students the opportunity to take courses at this prestigious university. Students are drawn to Sciences Po for its excellent instructors, and challenging courses. International students, in particular, stand to benefit from Sciences Po's pedagogical approach, based on constructing concise, convincing, and well-structured arguments.

This program is a competitive exchange program with limited spots.

Students must have completed or are currently taking (when applying) FR314.

Course planning

Exchange students on the Sciences Po program must attend a month-long orientation program during the month of September. During the orientation, the student learns to compose a Sciences Po brief and is tutored intensively in the French language.

After orientation courses begin. Courses are offered in the fields of Political Science, French/European Studies, Economics and Business, International Relations, History, Law, Literature/Culture, Languages, and Science and Sustainable Development. Students will participate in lectures (Cours magistraux) which emphasize written work, and smaller discussion sections (Conférences de méthode), which emphasize oral expression.

A full course listing may be found on the Sciences Po web site

Courses at Sciences Po are offered in both French and English. Approximately 50% of available courses are offered in English. Students planning to take courses in French must take French 414 at Illinois prior to departure.

A maximum of 36 semester hours may be earned over the year abroad.
