Schindler is a Swiss elevator manufacturer established in 1874 and is the second largest manufacturer of elevators in the world. In terms of escalator production, it holds the number one position in the world.

Schindler has been installing escalators in Indonesia since the 1970s. It is the most commonly seen escalator brand in Indonesia, where it is mainly seen in shopping malls.

It is currently represented by PT. Berca Schindler Lifts since 2000 (previously by PT. Capitol Mutual Corporation, 1970s-1982; and PT. Berca Indonesia, 1982-2000).

1970s-1980s

One of the first known Schindler escalators in Indonesia was installed in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jakarta in 1978. Two units of Schindler SW 30-100 K model were installed in the podium[1]. These escalators have since been replaced with new Schindler 9300 AE units in the 2010s.

1990s

These escalators typically have flat handrail ends, and landing covers with lined pattern and "Schindler" word (without the compass logo). The model name is estimated to be SWE and was manufactured in Vienna, Austria. Only a handful of them were ever installed in Indonesia during the 1990s, and almost all of them have been replaced. No model name is known for this type.

One particular installation in ITC Cipulir, Jakarta was made by China Schindler Elevator (CSE) and branded as "China Schindler". This escalator was replaced into a KONE TravelMaster 110 in the 2010s.

2000s-current

9300 / 9300 AE

9300 / 9300 AE is the current Schindler escalator model sold in Indonesia for general application since the 2000s. It was officially released in 1997, replacing the previous 1990s "flat end" model. The "AE" letter stands for "Advanced Edition". It is one of the most common escalator models seen in Indonesia.

It has a very distinctive curved handrail ends with square handrail holes. Escalators produced between the early 2000s and 2008 have the word "Schindler" with the compass logo, while those produced from 2008 onward have the new 2006 Schindler logo.

In 2016, the model received a redesigned handrail ends with round handrail holes, and keyswitch is now only located on the lower end. Also at this time the "AE" letter was dropped from the model name and is now simply known as 9300 (on Schindler official websites), or 9300-11 (on production detail stickers and plaques).

Since 2020, Schindler Clean UV/Clean UV Pro handrail ultraviolet sterilizers, which are part of Schindler's CleanMobility solution to reduce the spread of COVID-19 virus, can be installed for both new and existing installations as an option.

9300-35

9300-35 is a variant of Schindler 9300 for medium transit applications, featuring a full stainless steel balustrades.

9700 is a heavy duty escalator model for transit application. This model has not been installed yet in Indonesia.

InTruss

InTruss is a model for modernizing older escalators of any brands. This model has not yet been installed in Indonesia.

9500 / 9500 AE

9500 / 9500 AE is the current Schindler moving walk model sold in Indonesia. The horizontal type is called 9500, while the inclined type is 9500 AE. It is usually seen in large shopping centers that has large supermarket.
