OTIS is the world's largest elevator manufacturer, and the second largest manufacturer of escalators in the world. It was the first company to introduce escalator for the first time at the World's Fair event in Paris, France in the early 1900s.
OTIS first installed escalator in Indonesia around the late 1960s or early 1970s, becoming the second company to install escalators in the country after Hitachi (1966).
It is currently represented by PT. Citas Otis Elevator since 1992 (previously PT. Citas Engineering, 1965-1992)
Standard 1970s OTIS escalators have distinctive pattern on the landing covers, with a small "OTIS" word on it. Balustrades could be a standard glass, or stainless steel (the latter is rare). There is no known name for this particular escalator model.
By the mid or late 1970s, this model received an updated landing cover pattern with a new "stretched" OTIS logo that would be used until the 1990s.
Known installations:
Djakarta Theater, Jakarta (1970)
Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta (1974)
Grand Duta Merlin, Jakarta (no longer exist)
Tunjungan Market, Surabaya (1979, derelict)

This type has landing covers with a line pattern and a distinctive "stretched" OTIS logo. Skirts and handrail ends are usually black. It is estimated to be produced from the late 1970s until around the 1990s. The model name is assumed to be 506.
Known installations:
Globe Plaza, Pasar Baru, Jakarta
Plaza Parahyangan, Bandung

This type is pretty much similar to the 1980s type except that the handrail ends and skirts are silver instead of black and the skirting curves are completely curved. By the mid 1990s, the "stretched" OTIS logo was replaced with the newer standard OTIS logo on a lozenge shaped plate. The model name is assumed to be 506.

Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta (1992)

This type looks similar to the "flat ends" type but with "pre-NCE" angled handrail ends that would later be used on the NCE-506 and LINK models in the late 1990s and 2000s. It is possible that this is an early version of NCE-506, or a "transition" between the "flat ends" and NCE-506 model.
This type is extremely rare, with only one known unit has been found in Yogya Toserba in Sukabumi.

506 SL ("SL" means Slimline) is a lightweight version of the 506 type[1], produced between the late 1980s and early 1990s. This type has a distinctive design with dark grey colored angled handrail ends and a small screen on one of the ends with a red dotted "OTIS" word on it. It is estimated that this type was manufactured in Europe (probably Germany) as it is often seen in Europe.
This type is extremely rare in Indonesia, with only two places have been confirmed to have this type.
Known installations:
Istana Pasar Baru, Jakarta (1989)
Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel (extension wing), Jakarta (1989)
Toko Esa Mokan, Jakarta (derelict)

1990s OTIS moving walks are extremely rare. As of 2022, Jakarta Convention Center is the only place having this type. They are also one of the first moving walks in Indonesia. They can be found in the underground passage linking the convention center and the Sultan Hotel.
They use the same design as the 1990s "flat ends" escalators.
