Iredell County has been home to a diverse population and serves everything from the rural north part of the county to more urban setting of the Mecklenburg County line. This applies to the schools in the county as well. There have been dozens of schools over the year, some of which have closed and some of which are still educating the future generation of Iredell kids. The county had several African American schools that were closed in the 1960s following the end of segregation.
Mitchell Community College Digitized Content (Digital NC)- Originally founded as a women's Presbyterian college in 1856, Mitchell was granted community college status in 1973 and hosts two campuses in the county; one in Statesville and one in Mooresville.
Historic Schools (Clio's Nursery and Ebenezer Academy)- Clio's Nursery (established in 1778) was the forerunner of Ebenezer Academy (established in 1822) both of which were Presbyterian based. Ebenezer's log structure was later turned into a church and the Ebenezer school gave way to the rise of the public schools in the county.
