Let's keep active!

Welcome to our online activity centre!

Hertford and Ware School Sports Partnership want to help you to be active whilst the coronavirus outbreak is keeping us all at home. We hope that adding any of these activities into your new daily routine will also add some extra fun!

Anyone for Tennis?

Traditionally, we would now be into Wimbledon fortnight, but of course this year the great Lawn Tennis tournament is not taking place. To help fill the gap we have a tennis theme this week, so grab a racket and try the skills sheet, practice hand-eye coordination with Matt or test your family's knowledge with the tennis quiz.

CHALLenge

Rita’s ‘Where’s the Wimbledon Pair?’ Challenge

Equipment needed:

Socks, shorts, wristbands/ elastic bands, rackets/ bats, tennis balls, caps (2 of everything. Doesn’t matter if they don’t match!)
Don’t worry if you don’t have some or all of the above equipment. Just print off 2 copies of the attached pictures and use those instead.

How to play the game:

1. Divide the pairs of socks etc. Put one in a container in the middle of the room. Hide the other ones around the house, e.g. bedroom.

2. All the players play at the same time. With eyes closed, each person draws an item from the container. They hunt around the house to find the matching one.

3. When they have made a match, the player leaves one sock where it was found and returns the other sock to the container.

4. The player then selects another item and hunts for its pair. If they draw out the same item as before, they do a forfeit of 5 hops before choosing again.

5. Keep repeating the game until all players have matched all the items or until time is up.

Variations

· Create new forfeits, e.g. star jumps, instead of hops.

· Create your own version with different items.

Challenge yourself further

· Can you find all the items in less time than before?

· Can you be the first player to finish?

· Can you play it outdoors in a bigger space?

HIT IT TO WIN IT!

Equipment: Ball or rolled up socks, tennis racket/bat or use your hand, household items (not fragile ones!)

How to play:

Place the household items out at varying distances.

Begin behind a designated line and holding the bat or using your hand hit the ball to strike one of the household items. Use an underarm swing of the bat or swing your arm to hit the ball held in your other hand.

When successful retrieve the item you hit.

Playing against someone else? Who can collect the most items?

Playing by yourself? How quickly can you retrieve all the items?

Make this harder by allocating 2 points for items that are smaller or placed further from the start.
