Personal Challenge Week 4 -

Long jump world record attempt
Equipment - A measuring tape

How to play:

  • The standing long jump world record is held by Byron Jones who recorded a jump of 3.73m

  • Warm up with 1 minute jogging on the spot followed by ten squats.

  • Then see how many jumps it takes for you to reach the same distance

SKILL: AIMING AT A TARGET
PLAY ‘BOWL’- A GAME FOR 2 PLAYERS.


Equipment:

-1 tennis ball

-6 targets e.g. empty toilet rolls, milk, water or juice cartons

-throwing line e.g. rope, belt, cord

How to play the game:

1. Set up the targets on the floor as diagram on the right, 3mts or 3 giant steps from throwing line.

1. Individually practice aiming at the targets. Either roll or underarm throw the ball at the target. Remember to step onto opposite leg as you release the ball. How many attempts to knock down all the targets?

2. Challenge another member of your house to a game of ‘BOWL’. Start by playing a game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine who throws first. (player 1). Player 1 has 3 attempts to knock down all the targets. Make a note of how many they knock down. Set up all the targets and player 2 now has 3 attempts to knock down all the targets.

3. After round 1 whichever player knocked down the most targets earns themselves the letter B. (eg player 2) Set up all the targets and play again, if player 2 wins again, they receive the letter O, if player 1 wins they receive the letter B.

4. Continue until one person receives all the letters to spell ‘BOWL’ and wins the match.

You could challenge a person from another household and play via a video call.

Extension:

Player 1 chooses three targets for player 2 to knock down. How many attempts does it take to achieve this? Swap over roles with player 2 choosing three different targets for player 1 to knock down.

Active Crossword clues

First print the crossword grid (left)

  • Go outside into your garden or a stay in a safe space

  • Mime the picture clues to the crossword to a parent, sibling or carer

  • Only when they have guessed all of the picture clues can you then write them into the correct squares

After you’ve finished, think of 5 more physical activities (frisbee throwing, yoga for example) that you can mime for someone else in your house to guess
