Department of Pathology
The Pathology Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital is part of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital organization in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This state hospital, overseen by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, offers a range of core services through its diagnostic and screening laboratory. These services include Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, Hematology, Anatomical Pathology (Histopathology and Cytology), Drug Detection, and Molecular Laboratory. Additionally, the department acts as a reference laboratory for Sabah, the Federal Territory of Labuan, and several districts in Sarawak.
Objectives
The Pathology Department's management and core laboratory services adhere to national and international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 15189, and MSQH hospital accreditation standards.
The range of laboratory tests provided aligns with the requirements of state pathology laboratories under the Ministry of Health Malaysia, with ongoing efforts to minimize reliance on external reference laboratories (with less than 5% of tests sent elsewhere).
Tests are performed by qualified personnel using nationally and internationally accepted standards. Results are delivered within the specified timeframes and standards.
Quality indicators will be set, monitored, and reviewed regularly to evaluate their effectiveness.
