About Me
I have loved teaching at Hoover since I came here in 1992. My passion is helping all children, especially those who are struggling to have success in reading. I love it when a child believes that he or she "can do it." I went to Stanford University, where I studied Geophysics for several years, but finally earned a BA degree in History and Latin American Studies in 1986. When I decided to become a bilingual teacher, I went to San Jose State University and got a bilingual credential in 1989. Recently I went back to college and earned a masters degree in teaching leadership from Saint Mary's College in 2015, and am currently working on my doctorate in educational leadership.
I trained in Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura in 1998, and have loved teaching students to read and write in English and in Spanish.
When I'm not at school I love to play the saxophone! I also love to ride my bike and hike! My goal is to finish hiking from Mexico all the way to Canada by 2021. I live in East Palo Alto and have two cute but naughty kitty cats.
