At Hoover we provide Reading Recovery-based English and Spanish small group instruction to struggling readers in grades 1-5. As time permits, Kindergarten groups are also provided in the third trimester in English and/or Spanish, once students have been exposed to classroom literacy.
Small group instruction follows the framework of Reading Recovery, as developed by Marie Clay (2016), and adapted to small groups in English by Fountas and Pinnell (2014) with the Leveled literacy intervention (LLI). Spanish small groups follow a similar model, as articulated by Linda Dorn and Barbara Schubert (2008).
