March 2022
Council Corner
The council held its first meeting after the annual meeting this past Sunday. The first order of business was the election of council officers. The following members have agreed to serve in executive officer positions over the next twelve months: Lance Kupka, president; Bill Krueth, vice president; and Liisa Lamppa, secretary. Please keep these people and the remainder of the council in your thoughts and prayers as they serve the church in the upcoming months.
It has been almost two years since we met for coffee n’ after church services. The council decided that the longheld tradition of fellowship and conversation will be brought back on the first Sunday after Easter, April 24. Over the next two months, Stan will be contacting people from the old serving list to see if they are still interested in remaining on the new serving list. In addition, please feel free to contact him if you know of anybody who would like to be added to the list. This truly represents another step on your journal back to the new normal.
We then talked about snow removal from the church roof. It has been a winter of neverending snow showers. Just when the snowplow or snow blower is placed in the garage, it seems as if we have to get them fired up again a few minutes later. The roof has been cleared once already during this winter and is presently getting somewhat deep. In this light, the council decided to be proactive. We would like to invite congregation members to help with snow removal from the roof on March 12 @ 11 a.m. This also represents an excellent opportunity for some of our confirmands to get some volunteer hours completed. Charisse Salo has volunteered to help with some hot chocolate. Please contact the church if you are willing to assist in this endeavor.
I wanted to thank all of our members who have served as ushers in the midst of a worldwide pandemic over the past two years. Our world has constricted greatly during this time. Finding people to perform even the most simple tasks has become a job in itself. Still, the council would like to remind those who have agreed to serve as ushers to arrive at the church approximately thirty minutes before the beginning of services. This gives them the opportunity to clear any snow from the front steps and the handicap ramp before people start arriving in addition to taking care of any unforeseen issues that may arise. I personally need to get much better in this regard and hope that others can follow my example.
Finally, I wanted to give our congregation members an update on the call committee. The chosen members from Babbitt Evangelical and Hope Lutheran will meet with Deacon Brenda Tibbetts next month to begin the first formal steps in the process of choosing a new pastor. This will mainly serve as an introductory and organizational gathering. Deacon Tibbetts will explain the call process in depth to the group and answer any questions they may have. In addition, roles within the group will be assigned, and the methods/frequency of communication will be decided. Throughout the entire process, we will do our best to keep the HLC congregation informed of its progress.
.
May God grant you peace until we meet again next month…….
In God’s Name,
Lance Kupka
Council President
