September 2021
Council Corner
The council continued to revise our COVID-19 plan during our most recent meeting a few weeks ago. This time, we focused on singing. Starting in September, hymnals will be placed in each row of our pews. A Family of God book and our traditional ELW book will be available to our members at this time. This may not sound like a huge step--only one type of each book in each row. However, given what we have experienced since March 2020, it at least represents movement in a positive direction. Let us hope that we continue to progress in the coming months.
The council also talked about Sunday school. We gave the green light to starting up again this fall. The structure and frequency of Sunday school will be determined by our Youth & Family Committee. If you are interested in helping out, have a child/children who would like to attend, and/or know of a child/children who would be interested in attending, please contact the church. Stan will get you the necessary information to get you started in this process.
Pastor Birk broached the topic of beginning the call process to find a permanent pastor. This caught many of us by surprise. We are doing well financially and are very happy with our current spiritual path. However, as Pastor Birk reminded us, this is a necessary step in our church’s journey. The endeavor will start in the next few months. I encourage all congregation members to get involved, ask questions, and let us know what you would like to see in a permanent pastor. Meetings will be held with Babbitt Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a call committee will eventually be formed. Please consider lending a hand during this time. You will truly find it rather rewarding.
Finally, I want to say “thank you” to a few of our congregation members:
Charisse Salo and her daughters for painting the handicap ramp. It looks amazing!
Bill Krueth gets a double for filling in the hole left by the old gas tank and for doing the grass trimming around the church property throughout the summer.
May God grant you peace until we meet again next month…….
In God’s Name,
Lance Kupka
