April 2020 Council Corner
Wow! What a difference a few weeks makes! As many of you now know, Bishop Aitken, the head of the Northeast Minnesota Synod, recommended earlier this week that all Lutheran churches in the synod stay closed for the next eight weeks. We are fighting a battle as such that we have not seen in many of our lives. Let us be safe and practice the basic tenets of social distancing. We will get through this together. I will miss seeing all of you in church on Sunday’s.
During this hiatus, please remember to keep up your level of giving, if possible. HLC still needs to function during this time. We have regular expenses that need to be paid regardless of COVID-19. The council understands that this virus knows no boundaries and has extracted an economic impact on many families throughout our nation. If you can give a little bit, please give. If not, we understand.
In regard to some of the business that we covered at our last council meeting, we discussed a variety of issues. This included staying home if you feel sick, scheduling our church picnic for August 30, changing the well filter (it was extremely dirty), planning the Easter breakfast (council was going to take care of it), and updating the interim ministry process (still in the process of negotiation). We definitely did not lack issues to discuss.
Our venture through this COVID-19 journey will take us through many up’s and down’s. Stress levels will, no doubt, get strained as we are forced to live in a way that is unknown to many of us. The Lord will guide us through this process and will give us the strength, faith, and wisdom to overcome any obstacles that may confront us. In the end, HLC will make it through this ordeal.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to the church if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
May God grant you peace until we meet again next month…….
In God’s Name,
Lance Kupka
