August 2021
Council Corner
First and foremost on our agenda, the council revised the church’s COVID-19 plan. With the expiration of the governor’s executive powers on July 1, we felt that it was time for an update. We did not completely scrap the plan as we realized the COVID-19 will still be in our lives in the months ahead. Depending on the COVID-19 numbers in the future, this plan can be changed for better or for worse. Here is what we formulated:
Masks will be optional
Family/household seating will still be in effect
The peace will still be shared by waving
Communion will be done by packets
Ushers can return to the doorway to hand out bulletins and release congregants when services are completed
The council also discussed our fuel situation. Stan contacted our current supplier, Como, to see if we could get a better deal. They unfortunately did not give us the answers that we wanted. Subsequently, we decided to shop around for a better price. Based on the numbers that HLC received, council members made the choice to go with Edwards Oil at a price of $1.299 per gallon. This comes with an added bonus. Any congregation member who currently is an Edwards Oil customer can mention that they are a member of Hope Lutheran and will receive a $0.10 per gall discount on their fills. Congregation members who switch to Edwards Oil will get the first fill at $1.299 per gallon and thereafter $1.299 per gallon. This comes with a free switch fee. Anyone who is interested can contact Stan for further information.
On the church maintenance front, the current state of our refrigerator was discussed. It has been making various noises leading us to believe that it may be on its last legs. However, after checking on it for 2-3 weeks, we decided to keep it. The items in the lower part were still cold, and the items in the freezer were still frozen. In addition, we still have the option of keeping things in the deep freeze on the south side of the basement.
Finally, I want to say “thank you” to a few of our congregation members:
Lora Langowski for organizing our Confirmation event on July 18
Bill Kreuth for completing the handicap ramp repairs and attempting to fix the roof leak
Rocky Roggenbuck for volunteering his time to mow the lawn
May God grant you peace until we meet again next month…….
In God’s Name,
Lance Kupka
