Question: One day, a non-Muslim friend of mine asked me if she could join in Hijab Cosplay, even if she is not Muslim?
Hijab Cosplay is actually open for all other beliefs as long as they respect the basic rules in Hijab Cosplay as above. Meaning, you can start right away and try out Hijab Cosplay during the nearest Cosplay Conventions near you. However it is advisable that when people (General Public) may ask you follow up questions, just mention (in your words) that Hijab Cosplay is your method to express your love towards modesty.
Question: Is there any cosplan or cosplay that I should avoid when doing Hijab Cosplay?
Yes. Apparently there are some cosplan or cosplay that you should avoid when doing Hijab Cosplay. So remember, its not allowed to cosplay as these characters below, other than that is all good.
God like characters (Well known Deities, Goddess etc), which actually isn't allowed as it goes against Islamic values should be avoided
Any characters that would leave a bad image to Islam or goes against Islamic values should be best be avoided
Question: What is cosplay?
Cosplay is defined as "a type of performance art" in which participants whom wore costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Basically, cosplay means that you dress up in a costume. While in Hijab Cosplay, it also in-cooperates with wearing a hijab and also overall clothing style and modesty while Cosplaying.
Question: Do I have to act like my character while I am in costume?
No. Some people do choose to role-play while they are in costume, but it is by no means required, unless you are participating in an event or in a cosplay competition.
Question: Where do I get a costume?
Some people make their own costumes, some buy them from places like Lazada, Shoppee or specific costume retailers. Still others commission people to make their costume for them. It is not required that you make your own costume unless you are competing, where you will be judged on your craftsmanship.
Question: How do I decide who to dress up as?
In Hijab Cosplay, you can dress up as whomever you like except you may need to avoid sensitive characters especially that may offend other religion, or parties. Try to get a second opinion from other senpai Hijab Cosplayers regarding this.
Question: Can I wear a costume that isn't from an Anime or Japanese video game?
Yes! Its called OC (or Own Character) while in an anime convention, it is not require that cosplays be exclusive to Japanese media, unless you are planning on wearing the costume to participate in a specific cosplay event, in which case you will need to check the guidelines for each specific event. If you are just planning on walking around the convention halls, feel free to wear your favorite costume which also align withe the Hijab Cosplay values.
Question: Will people take my picture if I cosplay?
Almost certainly. It is very common for people to request photographs from people wearing costumes, particularly of popular characters. Practice your poses, just in case (important). This said, if you aren't comfortable with people taking your picture, don't be afraid to say "no". The vast majority of people are respectful of the cosplayer's wishes and will not photograph you without your consent. If someone does snap a photo without asking, you may politely ask them to delete it. If you encounter any problems with people taking unwanted photographs of you, feel free to contact any member, staff or security and they will be happy to help you.
