Course #: 1313
ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Grade: 11, 12
Credit: 1 Credit
Career Zone: HES
Prerequisite: B or higher in any Biology and Chemistry, AP Chemistry strongly recommended
Co-requisite: AP Chemistry strongly recommended
This course will prepare students for a college level course in Organic Chemistry. It will provide a survey of the basic organic compounds and the most common organic reactions, with examples of biological and industrial processes involving organic chemistry. Students will learn how to name organic compounds, to draw and understand their structures in two and three dimensions and to learn how chemical structure and reactivity are interrelated. Both virtual and hands on labs will be done. Students planning on studying nursing, medicine, chemistry, biochemistry or other science fields will benefit from enrollment in this course. It is strongly recommended that AP Chemistry be taken prior to or concurrently with this course.
