There are so many types of poetry, so we have decided to break up this page into subcategories to make things easier for you. Click the gallery of the type of poetry you want to add to.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, and we have added just some of the more popular and well known forms of poetry.

Haiku

Haiku is a type of short poem originating in Japan, with three lines, generally in a 5-7-5 syllable pattern, though many haiku poets don't actually use that "rule". Haiku are generally written about individual moments or experiences in the present. Nature is a good inspiration.

Sonnet

Made popular by Shakespeare, this is a type of short lyric poem that has 14 lines in a strict rhyme: a form known as iambic pentameter. This form of poetry is generally used to contrast or examine the tension between two feature two contrasting characters, events, beliefs or emotions. It is also used as a form of love poem
