Refers to the filtration and irradiation of the internal space air, by passing it through an accordingly equipped Air Handling Unit, using a Duct system placed at High Level.
Why? The virus is airborne by attachment.
Dynamic Recirculating Filtration and Irradiation will:
a. Remove a large part of the airborne droplets by retaining them on the filters of the system.
b. Inactivate the viruses by altering their RNA so that they are no longer able to multiply.
How? The air is drawn into a filtering unit through a system of ducts, treated by the unit and then extracted back into the space.
The filtering unit is composed of a series of filters, including a HEPA filter, able to stop molecules down to a 1 micron, and a set of UVGI lamps which inactivate the viruses on any molecules that were not stopped by the filters.
Action? Install system. (needs good design)
Advantages:
Can be used during Human Presence.
Able to treat large quantities of air (in practice limitless) using one AHU.
Able to work with High Duct Pressure Drop.
Able to work with one Supply and one return Duct Systems.
AHU Able to be placed either at high or at Floor (easier maintenance level)
Does not take up valuable floor area.
Disadvantages:
Supply and Return Grills are placed high, resulting in an upper level cross flow between them, bypassing lower air layers. Drawn-in air should be taken from as low level as possible (say 2.2 to 2.5 meters) to effectively lift and draw in the droplets. If possible, at head height (drawings of manufacturers available).
Reduced to zero ability to draw in air from low areas and thus lifting contaminated droplets, especially the larger and heavier ones, into the system to be treated.
High acquisition, Installation, and maintenance costs (Long ducts have to be maintained as well as the AHU).
Installation will disrupt / stop business operation for more than one days.
Needs High level ceilings.
Visually unattractive (bordering to eyesore)
