COVID UPDATE - April 28, 2020
As you are probably now aware, yesterday, Zone 5 cancelled all tournaments for the 2020 season. As we are a Zone sanctioned league and to fall in step with our leadership, the 2020 HE season will be cancelled. This will include the Huntting Cup in August and the Island Cup Challenge in September.
I have been communicating with Phyllis Laschuk (Vancouver) and they have not yet decided past the end of May. I suspect that they will follow suit in the coming days. I will communicate the decision to both Phyllis (Huntting Cup) and Dee Horie (ICC) after I send this email.
I did not want you to hear about the decision to cancel the season third hand. So, I would appreciate it if you would not contact anyone in Sweeny or Zone 6 for an hour after you receive this email. I would like the opportunity to communicate with Phyllis and Dee directly and do not want them to hear about our decision third hand either!
This is indeed a rare situation. 2020 will mark the first cancellation of HE since its' inception in 1952. The Huntting Cup, established in 1922, was only cancelled during the war years...1940-1946.
I will endeavour to plan an AGM for some time in the summer, preferably outside where we can safely gather. I will continue to monitor the recommendations of the PHO and let you know a date when I think it is feasible.
Sonja will be looking for a Vice Chair for the 2021 season. If anyone is interested in taking on that role, can you please let Sonja know.
Until we meet again...stay safe!
2020 HE Chair
As 2020 Chair, I am excited to welcome you to the Harris Erickson!
The Harris Erickson (HE) is open to any female player, (including juniors), in Zone 5, with a handicap index of 15.0 or less. The only other criteria is you must belong to a RCGA accredited club in the Zone. If you are unsure if you qualify, please email me and I will be happy to clarify for you.
The group generally plays on Monday afternoons after 12 PM. There have been several positive changes made to the HE over the past several years that have made the league more inviting and vibrant. If you have played in the past and have taken a few years off, we encourage you to come back this year. If you are a new player considering joining, please contact me and a “Big Sister” will be assigned to you for the 2020 season.
With the majority of club’s Women’s Days moving away from stroke play, to encourage participation, the HE is an excellent opportunity for you to develop your tournament skills and hopefully your overall game.
I look forward to seeing returning players and am excited about meeting any new players that would like to join our league.
