Structured PvP (sPvP)

Can be played the moment you finish the tutorial. The game will unlock all skills and specializations for you. If you do not own the expansions, you will not have access to those elite specializations, but some non-expansion builds are viable in sPvP. With an update to the new build/gear template system, you will automatically switch to the same build/gear you used previously in PvP. So as long as you played a PvP match in the gear/build before, it should switch you to your PvP setup when you enter a match and switch back to your PvE setup once you’re back in the open world. For builds, please check out Gods of PvP and if you're on an account with no expansions (or free-to-play), check out Vallun's builds here.

As a new player, this shouldn’t impact you too much, as you’re probably only using one of your three build templates for PvE while leveling and one out of the two Equipment Templates. Even so, this system is rather confusing for new players so I’ll go over it briefly.

In your equipment menu, you’ll find these tabs on top - These are equipment templates. You can have multiple sets of gear set up and that way your inventory won’t be full with alternate sets of equipment. By default, you only get two so if you play multiple game modes, you kinda have to decide what sets of equipment to use here. Since sPvP does not use stats from your gear, I don’t advise using one of your two equipment slots for sPvP. At most, you’ll only need to swap out weapons.

Next, you’ll need to set your specializations and certain pieces of gear that you’re allowed to select. To do this, you must enter the PvP lobby by clicking on the crossed swords icon. Once there, open up your hero panel and go to the 2nd tab (Build). It should look something like this:

You’ll want to set up one of your build tabs as a PvP build. If you’re struggling to figure out a build that would be good, start with MetaBattle and customize it to your liking. Fun fact, you can now copy/paste build template codes from MetaBattle or other sites and use them right away.

Then you want to click on helmet icon the at the top middle of your screen. You’ll need to have the weapons you want on hand (the stats don’t matter because gear in sPvP is normalized. There’s a weapon vendor in the PvP lobby if you need it. You’ll have to select sigils for your weapons in addition to a rune and amulet. These will only apply to sPvP. A recent update added the below button toggle in your equipment screen so that you’re able to change out your sPvP gear from anywhere.

Most importantly, remember to select a proper reward track so you can work towards armor, materials, and other things that you might want. You’ll unlock additional reward tracks as you play through the game in PvE, but even if you play sPvP exclusively, certain tracks will rotate every few weeks.

I advise you to check out Noziro’s Guide on sPvP, GuildJen's Guide, Hardstuck's Guide, in addition to Vallun's youtube channel and Blindside's YouTube channel. All website resources cover most of the things you’ll need to know about playing Conquest, which is the most popular mode of both ranked and unranked sPvP. I will add that you can join custom arenas via the PvP browser to learn the ropes at a more comfortable rate. People also host tournaments this way for modes that you cannot queue for (1v1, 2v2, etc). Automated tournaments also run multiple times per day that offer additional rewards, including qualifying points to get your team into the monthly tournaments.
