Pleasant Street Community Garden and Pollinator Gardens

35 Pleasant Street

Volunteers not needed at this time.

About these gardens:   In April 2017, the former Davis Street School Administration Building and the Pleasant Street Community Garden were demolished to make the site ready for a new community center.  The Community Garden was re-established behind the new John Zon Community Center in 2019. This area continues to be a place where individuals can rent a garden plot, and where there is care to plant flowers for pollinator insects.

A bioswale between the new building and the garden plots collects rainwater from the new building and is planted with native plants that can tolerate both wet and dry conditions.  In 2023, native Viburnum trilobum shrubs were added to the water-tolerant shrubs and forbs already there.

The bioswale is currently maintained by the renters of the garden plots.
