John Zon Senior and Community Center

35 Pleasant Street

About this garden:  When plans for the Greenfield Senior and Community Center were developed, the director was asked what type of landscaping she envisioned.  She dreamed of native plant gardens along the sidewalk in front of the new building. Once the new building was completed in 2019, with landscaping that included many native shrubs and trees, Tom Sullivan of Pollinators Welcome designed a pollinator garden to go along Pleasant Street, which was then planted by a team of volunteers.   A plan to add more native trees and shrubs around the building itself began to take shape in spring of 2022. Unfortunately, persistent drought and resulting watering restrictions during the summer months put this plan on hold till fall of 2023, when many native shrubs and a dozen native trees were added to the landscaping.  Many thanks to the volunteers from Greenfield Tree Committee and Greening Greenfield for this effort!
