A. Definition
Tanya Cotter, in teaching grammar not only give our students the means to express themselves, but we also fulfil their expectations of what learning a foreign language involves. Fortunately, nowadays with the emphasis on a communicative approach and a wealth of stimulating resources, teaching grammar does not necessarily mean endless conjugation of verbs or grammar translation. without grammar, words hang together without any real meaning or sense. in order to be able to speak a language to some degree of proficiency and to be able to say what we really want to say, we need to have some grammatical knowledge.
B. Significance
The PPP lesson planning framework is the most basic and easiest approach to teach grammar once you master PPP, you will master PPP, you will be able to follow ESA and TBL without any issues, In PPP, the teacher presents the target grammar structure. learners are then given the opportunity to practice the structure in a controlled manner.
It's easy to learn for new teachers.
It's very flexible.
It's easy to plan for and has a logical progression.
It works for most types of classes, including larger classes.
Most course books use this or a similar method to structure their lessons and chapters.
D. Reflection
PPP is a commonly used method in lesson planning, and it stands for Presentation, Practice, and Production. This method is often used in language teaching, but it can be adapted for other subjects as well.
In the Presentation phase, the teacher introduces a new concept or language item, using visual aids, examples, and explanations. This is usually followed by some form of guided practice, where learners are given controlled exercises to help them understand and remember the new material.
Then, in the Practice phase, learners work on more open-ended exercises that require them to use the new language or concepts in context. This phase allows learners to practice using the language in a more natural way, with opportunities for feedback and correction.
Finally, in the Production phase, learners are given a task that requires them to use the language or concepts in a more independent way. This phase aims to simulate real-world situations where learners must apply what they have learned in a more authentic context.
Overall, the PPP method is a structured and effective way of introducing new material, allowing learners to practice and use it in different contexts, and finally applying it in an independent and authentic way. It provides a clear framework for lesson planning and can be adapted to various levels and subjects.
