A. Definition
A linguistic method in teaching grammar is a way of teaching grammar that is based on the scientific principles and empirical data of linguistics. It involves the understanding of grammar rules and the research of implicit grammar functions in the target language. It is more reasoning-centered than knowledge-centered and is designed for advanced learners who want to develop their inquiry learning and active learning skills. A linguistic method in teaching grammar is different from other methods, such as the grammar translation method, which focuses on the translation of texts and the memorization of vocabulary in the target language
B. Significance
The significance of linguistic method in teaching grammar is that it can help learners to develop their linguistic competence and awareness of the target language. It can also foster their critical thinking and problem- solving skills by engaging them in the analysis and discovery of grammar rules and functions. Moreover, it can enhance their motivation and interest in learning grammar by making it more meaningful and relevant to their communicative needs and goals. A linguistic method in teaching grammar can also benefit teachers by providing them with a scientific framework and empirical evidence for their pedagogical decisions and practices.
D. Reflection
This work is dedicated to all the teachers who have devoted their time and energy to teaching grammar effectively and creatively. It is a reflection of our enthusiasm and dedication for teaching and learning grammar. We believed as a group that grammar is not only a set of rules, but also a tool for communication and expression. We have tried to demonstrate this in our work by integrating grammar with various aspects of language learning, such as vocabulary, pronunciation, discourse, and pragmatics. We have also tried to incorporate different methods and techniques for teaching grammar, such as inductive and deductive approaches, diagramming sentences, learning throught writing, interactive, funtional-notional, using text, stories, songs and rhymes, PPP, dictation, drilling, linguistic, and using object (presenting the meaning). We hope that this work will encourage everyone to experiment with different ways of teaching grammar and to adapt them in their own teaching context and goals. We appreciate the support and advice that we received from our colleagues and instructor throughout this project. We are happy with the outcome of our work and we hope that everyone will find it valuable and interesting. Thank you for your curiosity and appreciation.
