Drilling

A. Definition

Drill is a Technique that focuses on a minimal number (usually one or two) of language form (grammatical or phonological structure) through some type of repetition. Drill are commonly done chorally (the whole class repeating in unison) or individually drilling refers to a type of audio-lingual techniques based on students repeating a model provided by the teacher. the focus is on accuracy rather than fluency. they are used to practiced: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation. this technique is still used by many teachers in many parts of the world although the theory-behaviorism- which is the basis of such a technique was discredited a long time ago. 

B. Significance

Several goals can be attributed to drill and practice exercises. They can be used to build confidence as more answers are correctly provided. They also help to reinforce important materials. Learners are also provided and opportunity to practice critical skills and knowledge sets.The drilling method is a way of teaching in which students carry out training activities so that students have dexterity or skills that are higher than what was learned. 

D. Reflection

The drilling method of teaching is a technique that involves repetitive practice of a particular skill or concept until mastery is achieved. This method is often used in language learning, mathematics, and other subjects that require a lot of memorization and repetition.

One of the advantages of the drilling method is that it can be very effective in helping students to develop automaticity in the skills being practiced. Automaticity is the ability to perform a task quickly and accurately without conscious effort or thought. By practicing a skill repeatedly, students can develop automaticity, which can be beneficial in many different areas of learning.

However, there are also some limitations to the drilling method. For example, it can be boring and repetitive for students, and it may not be effective for developing higher-level thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Additionally, the drilling method may not be effective for all learners, as some students may require more varied and interactive approaches to learning.

To use the drilling method effectively, it is important to use a variety of drills that are targeted to the specific needs of each student. It is also important to monitor student progress and adjust drills as needed to ensure that students are making progress and staying engaged.

Overall, the drilling method can be a useful tool in teaching and learning, but it should be used in combination with other teaching methods to ensure a well-rounded and comprehensive approach to education
