It may be asked: What have I gleaned from writing this memoir? My answer is that I have identified the central transformations I have undergone—and those I have yet to undergo—across my emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual development.
Four core transformations stand out: from stagnation to fertility, fragmentation to unity, insanity to sanity, and disconnection to connection. Each of these transformations applies to all four domains, yielding sixteen possible transformations in total.
I have been intellectually successful with all four. With this memoir, I hope to complete my spiritual transformation with the return of the Grail. Emotionally, I have only been partially successful. I still live in silence—but through this memoir, I hope to give that silence a voice. Socially, I have long struggled to connect. Yet again, I hope this memoir marks a step toward a transformation yet to come.
I’ve created a 5×5 table to map these sixteen transformations (Table 1). It clarifies what I have achieved and what remains unfinished. In writing this memoir, I step further into the process of healing through transformation.
