Standard 6 - Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication – The competent teacher has foundational knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication within the content area and recognizes and addresses student reading, writing, and oral communication needs to facilitate the acquisition of content knowledge.
The purpose of this artifact is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of teaching the knowledge of reading, writing, and oral communication. This is a unit plan made for early literacy classroom This artifact was a good experience to have because it opened my eyes to teaching a different level than I expected. The purpose of this assignment was to be able to write a lesosn for a classroom with a specific demographic.
6B- My unit plans for “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” demonstrates all of the knowledge Indicators of Standard six of the Illinois Professional teachings standards. One on the overarching themes that my book demonstrates and helps students think about is that acceptance of differences and changes. The caterpillar goes through changes and its start from an egg and grows into being a butterfly. Students will be able to connect to the text because as they grow that will be changing as well.
6G-My Unit lesson also develops my students’ own abilities to practice reading strategies. Students will be taught in a manner that allows then to work through a thinking process as well as being having the teacher model what is expect from them. The start of the unit is a book walk that allow them to gather preliminary information to to engage their prior knowledge, next students will use that information to make conclusion on the story. Student will be walked through the information that will assist them in easier comprehension of the story.
6I-The classroom as a wide variety of students that require an intense amount of differentiation in the classroom. Students in the classroom include general education students, students with a specific learning disability and students that are English language learners. In the unit plan, I have included many resources to give all students the equal opportunity to learn the connect at the same pace. During our vocabulary lesson, students will receive flash cards dependent of their level of comfort ability of reading comprehension.
6I- Along with an understanding of student’s abilities and skills I have also include different methods to teach the unit plan. I have included physical texts, the use of technology, and even the use of manipulative. Along with that I also included a craft that will allow for the creative and cognitive levels of thinking when interpreting the text.
This lesson has taught me to code switch for the demographic for the classroom you are working with. Realize that not all things are a one size fits all and that you will need to learn to adapt to the environment of students that you are working with.
This artifact is a lesson that is based on reviewing place values. This is the first study guide I created. I created the lesson on questions that were given to students in assignments prior. This lesson was important because its would be a clear indicator of what lessons that students remember. I made sure to go over the study guide with the students the following day.

The study guide is the use of formal assessment. This assessment was used to gauge the information that the students gathered from the lessons prior. I used the study guide to write a final assessment that should challenge the skills that the students have but one that won't make them feel overwhelmed. This method of teaching is used to observe and monitor the growth of the students' progress.
This lesson is used to focus on how to respond to students' progress via a study guide. After I took back the study guides and reviewed how the students did, I made an assessment based on their abilities. Regardless how I reworked the test the students struggled a bit. I taught me to be a bit more reflective on my teaching methods along with be more focused on how I can be a more successful teacher.
