Artifact Description : This artifact was completed as part of a course requirement in my Spring Semester of 2020 for Trinity Christian Colleges Adult Studies Program. I have created this virtual classroom to portray what my Secondary Special Education classroom will look like. In this website you will find things such as my classroom rules and expectations and how I will incorporate diversity into my class. You will also find reasons for why teaching is my passion and how I intend on making sure all student that are in my classroom become successful
Connection to the IPTS Standard : Throughout my website you will find many anecdotes that explain the importance of making my students feel safe and welcomed. I stress the importance of this to the fullest of my abilities because not only does having a safe environment protect the students but it enables them to truly grow as an individual. Part of my classroom expectations is to respect the teacher and fellow classmates, I believe its important to allow everyone to feel that the classroom is free on any negative judgement to promote a healthy environment (4G). On my website you will find how I plan to assess my students to ensure that they will have the same opportunities to grow as everyone else (4E).
Description of what I learned : As I completed this website it helped me understand that its necessary to always continue to learn and be prepared to always focus on the safety of the student. I learned that in order to be a successful teacher you have to be prepared to communicate with both parent and student to ensure that their is success. If there is one thing that I will take away from this artifact, it will be to always be informed, to always create a safe space, and to always be ready to teach students about a healthy learning environment.
This lesson was one of the first lessons that I incorporated a fun activity is the week. At this point of my student teaching, I wanted to start making learning more fun. I feel that it was necessary because everything I taught was lecture. Playing connect for as a learning tool seems to really get the students involved with the lesson. Nothing like a bit of positive reinforcement and competition to get the students wanting to learn math.
4E) knows how to assess the instructional environment to determine how best to meet a student’s individual needs.
This lesson meets the needs of the fourth standard for learning because of the needs that were met for the students. This lesson didn't meet the students' needs on an academic level but one on a more of a lighter level. At this point in student teaching, I wanted to make the lessons in class fun and exciting. The game started being incorporated into my weekly lesson planning to give students something to look forward to. The assess of my students to make this decision was done informally. I started to realize that some were bored learning through lecture.
What I learned from this artifact is to try and have more fun with lesson plans. I know that this is my first example of teaching, but I would like to keep that part of the lesson with me in future teaching jobs. Students having something to look forward to, or earning a prize has always seemed to work for students. Some students frequently asked me what games I had planned for the future. I like to believe that students started to focus more in class to be ready for the games that I have plan.
