Govt. Gordon Graduate College has always been instrumental in bringing out the hidden talents of the students. Bar and Minerva Clubs are the two instances from the golden past which not only enlivened the artistic environment of the College but also contributed in enriching the literary landscape of Pakistan by producing actors like Rahat Kazmi and Shujaat Hashmi under the patronage of Prof. Nasrullah Malik. Continuing this tradition, there are a number of societies that aim at encouraging the students to express themselves.
SAJJAD SHEIKH LITERARY AND CULTURAL FORUM
Prof. Sajjad Sheikh served for almost three decades as the Head of the Department of English at this college. He is remembered for his exceptional literary and creative insights which inspired so many generations of the students during those times. His creative oeuvres are not only in English but also in Urdu and Punjabi. He left this transient abode on 18 March, 2014. This forum was established in recognition of his matchless services for this college. One of his prodigious students, Mr. Sheikh Irfan Afzal is the in-charge of this forum. Various literary events are conducted under the aegis of this forum from time to time.
BAZM-E-NAVEED-E-SAHAR
Throughout the history of Govt. Gordon Graduate College, literary taste of the Gordonians and their teachers has sweetened the scholarly ambience of the institute. Students participate in literary activities conducted under the patronage of Mr. Faheem Ahmed who administers this society for disseminating the love of Urdu literature amongst the students. From time to time, competitions of speeches, recitation, na’at, essay-writing and debates are conducted in the medium of Urdu under the aegis of this society.
THE GORDONIAN (COLLEGE MAGAZINE)
The 1st issue of The Gordonian was published in 1915 and from that year till now, it has been regularly published reflecting the change in the patterns of thought and the expression of the students over a period spanning more than 40 century. At present, Mr. Irfan Afzal is performing his duties as its Editor-in-Chief whereas Mr. Adnan Ashraf, in his role as Vice Editor-in-Chief, makes the layout of the whole magazine in addition to carrying out a transparent process of the selection of the associate editors from amongst the students through a written test and interview. Dr. Ali Ammar, a literary researcher of international repute, is the Editor of English Section whereas Mr. Faheem Ahmed and Dr. Saleha Nosheen are working in the capacity of the Editors of Urdu Section.
