A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE
Established during the British Raj, Gordon College has evolved significantly over 130 years, playing a key role in the education and socio-political development of the Potohar region. Originally founded as a primary school in 1856 under the Presbyterian Mission, it became Gordon Mission College in 1893, named after Andrew Gordon in honor of his contributions to education. Initially offering intermediate courses, it became a degree college in 1902, adding science courses in 1904 and MA programs by mid-20th century. Nationalized in 1972, it made quality education accessible to students from modest backgrounds.
Throughout its history, the college has fostered intellectual and professional excellence, with its graduates excelling in diverse fields. Notable alumni include Justice (Ret.) S. Din Muhammad, actor Rahat Kazmi, Bollywood pioneer Shyam, journalist Syed Talat Hussain, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, and several renowned educators and writers.
