Beowulf EP (2021)

This is music for an imagined retelling of the Beowulf legend. It attempts to evoke lonely, stark landscapes and slowly brewing evils from this tale of hard living in rough, cold lands. My focus is not on the heroic deeds told by Beowulf's author, but the vividly described hardships endured by fragile, yet honor-bound people with uncertain futures, caught up in an ageless wave of cyclical violence and suffering.

Thanks to Mi-sun for coping with the dreadful drones coming from my studio, and to Istvan B'Racz and Teresa for lighting fires under me to get this done, whether they know they have or not.

I dedicate this to the wonderful Beowulf scholars Seamus Heaney, E. T. Donaldson, J. R. R. Tolkien, Ken Eckert and to author John Gardner for his wonderful book "Grendel".
