Project Lovebug continues

In our original project we donated over 4,000 appreciation bugs to Marin's grocery store & food bank front liners - see details

Fairy Spotting

Good fairy continues to paint!! We need all the bugs we can get! We now honor, appreciate, celebrate with or comfort individuals and organizations with ladybug stones.

Why ladybugs?

In nature all ladybugs give out a slight smell, when they cluster together their combined odor is strong enough to ward of predators. They are a great example of a community working together, everyone offering what they can. Good fairies are welcome to nominate recipients who deserve recognition as community helpers or who are having a really tough time and in need of a little boost.

Recipients

Most go to individuals, we mail them, drop them off as a surprise or present them with a thank you card from the person who made the nomination. Some accompany our projects - each 'Leafy Friend' plant comes with a bug. We have also acknowledged these groups, Paradise on Picnic, A & S Landscapes, West Marin Compost, Novato Landscape Materials, Marin Color and Marin Ace who have made generous donations to us. And we have acknowledged the case workers at Ritter House and Community Action Marin's CARE team, The Marin Ombudsman staff and volunteers, The staff of The Marin Center For Independent Living, The staff of Mt Tam Orthopedics and Spine, Novato, The staff of San Anselmo Family Dentistry, Grocery workers in Boulder, Colorado, The Ceres Project staff, volunteers and clients, UCSF's MRI team and Downtown Streets staff. Giant bugs. These have been awarded to The San Francisco/Marin Food Bank, Victory Village affordable housing complex in Fairfax and The Las Gallinas Lions.

  • Materials - contact us if you need help getting stones, they are for sale in most gardening/landscaping stores. We esp recommend A and S Landscape in San Rafael who will give you a 10% discount for Good Fairy stones and Novato Landscape Materials who have been most generous in donating stones to us. Use Acrylic paint and consider surfing Amazon or checking out a craft store to treat yourself to paint pens ..you can even get 3D fabric/stone pens which are awesome for eye

  • Click here for examples of Bug Designs. Here are some design ideas, there are lots of very simple ones.. which are always incredibly effective. But you are welcome to be as creative as you like and we've been humbled by some of the fine art work coming in. Artistic ability is of however of no consequence compared to you having fun and everyone having a go. Make sure everyone in your family does a few ( yes even Dad!). Some of our most cherished bugs are done by very small children and people with extreme mental and physical challenges. Some were even painted by a dog. We also encourage you to make the effort to paint the misshapen or chipped stones. Again they often make the most loved bugs and it reflects our message of inclusivity. Remember we mix the stones up so its a great idea to pick a design and then do a whole batch of them like a production line .

  • Consider joining local enthusiasts and experts in Good Fairy Diane Faw's Facebook Group Marin Rocks .

  • Consider tuning in to our 7pm Tuesday night hour of Celtic harp while you paint ( email Christine@christinetulis.com to request a link - it's always free to Good Fairies).

email team@goodfairy.org to nominate a recipient and/or to contribute painted stones

Labels, we place a label reading ' Do you believe in fairies? www.goodfairy.org ' on the bottom of stones that are big enough. We can do this for you or you can do it yourself. Just print out a sheet of labels and attach to your stones with Modge Podge and cover with Modge Podge. The label can then be covered with sealant. Click here for printable labels
