The mod features a main story campaign, bonus missions created by the developers, additional missions from the community, as well as a survival mode and many others. Let’s go through each of them in order:
The Prologue serves as the core story campaign, introducing the beginning of the viral outbreak.
Each mission places you in the shoes of different characters, each facing situations where the lives of thousands depend on their actions. As you follow their stories, you'll also get to know the factions they represent—giving you deeper insight into the world’s structure and the inner workings of each organization.
This campaign consists of four missions, each depicting a different phase leading up to the collapse.
You’ll take on the roles of a squad leader from SFOD-D (Delta Force), an FBI breach team commander in New York City, a cleanup unit leader from the private military company BlackWatch, and a captain in the NYPD. The lives of countless civilians—not just on the East Coast or in the U.S., but around the world—rest in their hands… and yours.
The Republic of Panama, 1989.
The American invasion is in full swing. The military has already achieved significant success - however, a new variable has emerged, one that requires the presence of special operations forces: Delta Force.
New York, USA, 1993.
The FBI has obtained critical intelligence regarding an impending attack by Panamanian terrorists on U.S. soil and its citizens. The mission is clear: neutralize the threat before the situation spirals out of control.

One of the surviving terrorist cells has made its move, pushing the world to the edge of disaster. In response, Gentek has deployed its most elite assets - a unit from the private military company BlackWatch - to stabilize the situation.
New York, USA, 1993.
The situation has rapidly spiraled out of control. A full-scale outbreak has erupted. Police officers and tactical response units are doing everything they can to save civilians — and to avoid being lost themselves in a city that's falling apart.
Additional missions created by the mod’s developers let you take part in military rescue operations across New York and Washington, D.C.
The situation on the ground is extremely unstable, and even the presence of a single experienced commander and squad could make the difference—buying precious time to evacuate those still trapped in this nightmare.
These people have no one left to count on. Many have endured fear, pain, and hopelessness for weeks—some for months. The arrival of soldiers gives them one final chance to survive. It's up to you to bring hope back into their lives.
New York, USA, 1993.
The U.S. Armed Forces have gathered enough strength to enter the city and begin the evacuation of New York's remaining survivors. The defensive line runs through the city’s main artery - Times Square - and the local garrison is in desperate need of support.
The developers of the modification actively support map makers and mission makers, in a word - people who support the project, by adding their missions and using their maps at an official level in the modification. The community, in turn, has given us many interesting missions that help us delve deeper into the universe of this world.
Take part in a variety of events on behalf of the US military, doing everything possible to save civilians, and not to sink into oblivion themselves. Also, the community provides an opportunity to find yourself in the place of ordinary survivors, struggling for their place in this harsh world, and there is also a mission about the PMC "BlackWatch", who are engaged in their own, separate from all other tasks.
New York Outskists, USA, 1993.
A Gentek scientists made contact with the BlackWatch PMC and request evacuation. The PMC sent a team to quickly locate and evacuate the target. Failure is not an option.
New York, USA, 1993.
The very beginning of the epidemic. The police, not really understanding the situation, are trying to resist the hordes of infected. Sometimes, completely surrounded, they courageously held their positions to the last.
Washington D.C., USA, 1993.
Hours before the outbreak, gunfire and screams were heard for a long time in one of Washington apartments. The police quickly cordoned off the area and began a search and rescue operation.
The year is 1998, and the government’s military forces have launched a full-scale invasion of the Red Zone. U.S. troops are tasked with securing key strategic locations across the battlefield. But the Renegades - scrappy, determined, and unwilling to surrender what they consider their land - are ready to fight back. Whether victory goes to the well-equipped but expensive government army or the resourceful, lightly armed Renegades depends entirely on your actions.
Take part in battles across iconic locations. Unlock new units, equipment, and vehicles through the research tree. Manage your economy, fortify your defenses, choose where to strike, repair and repurpose enemy tech - strategy and adaptability are your keys to victory.
In this mode, you’ll engage in close-quarters infantry combat from a first- or third-person perspective. Designed as a PvP arena shooter, the mode challenges players to eliminate opposing forces and capture designated flags - holding them to earn victory points.
This mode exists outside the main storyline of the Dawn of the Dead mod. All events here are standalone and non-canon, offering a new gameplay experience set within the familiar world we’ve come to love.
Red Zone, USA.
This was once a bustling port where cargo flowed out to the rest of the world.
Now, the only ones leaving are those who managed to survive the slaughter.

This area was once held by U.S. forces as a transit hub en route to distant outposts.
The convoy has been stranded on the road for some time now — but the fighting around it still hasn’t stopped.
In this game mode, you must build defensive positions around the last remaining point in the sector and hold it against incoming enemy reinforcements
until time runs out. Take control of the same units available in multiplayer and hold the line as long as possible. Don’t forget
to reinforce your defenses with structures, mines, and sandbags to buy yourself time.

This game mode closely resembles the “Last Stand” mode. Here, you must defend the only available point in the sector — not from enemy troops, but
from endless waves of infected. Use the familiar multiplayer units and combine the forces of government troops and renegades to
survive this hell. And be warned — special infected from L4D2 will also join the attack.

Red Zone, USA, 1998.
In this mode, you’ll take control of a group of survivors desperately clinging to their last hope of staying alive.
They missed the military evacuation and arrived at the extraction point too late. In a last-ditch effort to find something of value, they lingered at an abandoned evac zone—only to become surrounded by swarms of infected.
To survive, they must work together, support one another, reinforce their position, and call in supply drops from the US Air Force—still assisting anyone left behind after the main evacuation. They can either search for a way out of the hopeless situation… or choose to stand their ground and take as many infected and looters with them as they can.
New Jersey, USA, 1993.
A motel in one of the city’s districts once served as a U.S. military outpost during civilian evacuation efforts. Now, a group of survivors hoping to find refuge there has instead found only the bodies of fallen soldiers.
