Connecting HCFM to the Global Holy Cross Family
Father Willy Raymond, C.S.C.,
President, Holy Cross Family Ministries
Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings from Holy Cross Family Ministries home office, Easton!
Saint John Paul II said, “In a unique way, the family as domestic church participates in the priestly, prophetic, and royal mission of Jesus Christ and his Church. By doing so, the Christian family becomes ‘one heart and mind’ in faith.” {Acts 4: 32}
Just as the Angel Gabriel appears to Mary announcing that she is to give birth to the Savior, so an angel appears to Joseph in a dream announcing that he is to take Mary into his home as his wife for the child to be born is conceived in her womb through the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit. A second angelic visit to Joseph announces in a dream the time to flee with the Child and Mary to Egypt. In a third dream, the angel tells Joseph to return to Israel; not to Bethlehem, but to Nazareth. Joseph surrenders to God’s will and becomes the spouse of Mary, the foster father of Jesus, and protector and guardian of the Holy Family of Nazareth. This October, let us all go to Joseph, the master builder of the family, model of fathers, and obedient repairer of the breach in all families.

The theme for the sixth issue of this global newsletter, A World at Prayer News is: Go to Joseph. St. Joseph is a model for all of us to follow. In this publication, we will experience the manifold ways in which our 27 Ministry Centers around the world are reaching out to families to support their spiritual well-being. Thanks to all our teams for your continued work for families around the world.
Like the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph accepted God’s vocation and trusted that the future was securely in God’s hands. Let us pray that all fathers and mothers will embrace vocations in the family with joy, and place all their trust in God. May St. Joseph intercede for all of us.
“Go to Joseph with extreme confidence because I do not remember having asked anything from St. Joseph, without having obtained it readily.”
St. Padre Pio

Bishop Edgard M. da Cunha, S.D.V., gives his address at the annual Catholic Youth Day
Opportunities to withdraw from the noise and activity of daily life are few and far between, especially for young people among whom digital connectivity is an ever-present reality. The annual Catholic Youth Day of the Diocese of Fall River offered one such opportunity for more than 250 teens and youth ministers from 24 parishes across the diocese.
Saint Joseph's silence speaks volumes. It is because of his silence that I am hearing more clearly. Recently, I was made aware of the fact that not a single one of St. Joseph's words are recorded in the Bible. Not one word! Contemplating this, I felt immeasurable sadness.

St. Joseph speaks not a word in Scripture, but whenever God had a mission for him, he always stepped up. In this episode of Family Theater Productions’ series Catholic Central, devoted to the foster-father of Jesus, our host Libby tells you more about this “righteous dude,” who truly was the strong, silent type, and a man of action in salvation history.

Seville, Spain - October 29, 2014: The painting of Battle of Lepanto from 7. 10. 1571 in the church Iglesia de Santa Maria Magdalena by Lucas Valdez (1661 - 1725)
During this 450 year anniversary of Battle of Lepanto, Father Willy Raymond, C.S.C. gives a brief and insightful history of the Rosary. Of course this history includes our very own 'Rosary Priest', Venerable Patrick Peyton.
Rosie Castro, HCFM Benefactor, poses with photographs of her parents
Rosie gained a love for the Rosary and a spirit of giving thanks from her beloved parents. Growing up in the Philippines, Rosie was the only child of two selfless and devoutly Catholic parents. Her father was a Knight of Columbus, and her mother was a Catholic Women’s League member. Rosie’s parents were among the 3 million people that attended one of Father Peyton’s Rosary Rallies in Manila, and he left an impression on them that lasted their entire lives.
She fondly remembers gathering with family every evening to pray the Rosary together, her parents opening up their home each Christmas day to all who wished to enter, providing all those who needed it with a hot meal, a place to stay, and money to sustain them when they left. “I had wonderful parents who raised me with the idea that the Rosary was a way of life and charitable works are more rewarding than material things,” she says.
Her parents’ love for Father Peyton and the Rosary has inspired Rosie to continue supporting Holy Cross Family Ministries.
“I like how the organization that Father Peyton founded is oriented to the family because family unity is very important to me and the dedication of Holy Cross Family Ministries to the Rosary and international outreach motivates me. I am honored to give as much as I can, for as long as I can.”
“Each of us can discover in Joseph – the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence – an intercessor, a support and a guide in times of trouble. Saint Joseph reminds us that those who appear hidden or in the shadows can play an incomparable role in the history of salvation.” - Pope Francis, Ite Ad Joseph (Go to Joseph)
Holy Cross Family Ministries launches a new project, namely, the Global Ministry Campaign Project. Through this project, we are offering a calendar that will allow all 27 ministry centers in Holy Cross Family Ministries to unify our planning and outreach to families around the world. The goal is to maximize the reach and impact of our mission efforts to help families pray.
The HCFM PrayFest Community, made up of 27 ministry centers, showcases its devotion to St. Joseph twice a month with deep, insightful videos and prayer-posts. St. Joseph is a living inspiration to the men and women who make up and contribute to the Holy Cross Family Ministries across North America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Let us tell you how...
“The Holy Family”
Artist Theodore Schluenderfritz
Family Rosary USA is pleased to announce the theme of the upcoming Try Prayer! It Works! Contest: “The Holy Family.” Artist Theodore Schluenderfritz created an original illustration of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph for the contest theme, which the brochure describes in the following words...
We continue to receive testimonies from around the globe that reflect our mission to inspire, promote, and foster the prayer life and spiritual well-being of families throughout the world. We help families pray.
Dear Jesus,
Father Peyton devoted his priestly life to strengthening the families of the world by calling them to pray together every day, especially the Rosary. His message is as important for us now as it was during his life on earth.
We beg you, therefore, to hasten the day of his beatification, so that your faithful people everywhere will remember his message that the family that prays together stays together, will imitate him in his devotion to your Mother and ours, and will be inspired by his holy life to draw ever closer to you with childlike confidence and love.
Amen.
