The GBDSS Music Department is growing and we are seeking a team of hard-working and dedicated individuals to provide valuable input into department operations.
The Music Council will assist with the following operations:
Plan events/concerts
Plan music fun nights
Help orient grade 9’s
Help with inventory
Plan fundraisers
Provide input into department direction
Take part in bi-weekly meetings

Please note that President, Secretary, Publicity Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Librarian, Stage Manager, Percussion Manager, Inventory Manager, Inventory Manager, Operations Coordinator, and Event Crew Coordinator are substantial roles with an involved portfolio.

Responsible for overseeing music leadership team initiatives.
Job Requirements
Must have an incredible work ethic.
Must be willing to lead by example. This includes being the first one to pitch in for odd jobs around the music department where feasible.
Must be outgoing and must be willing to form a personal connection to every student who is involved in music extracurriculars.
Eligibility
Priority for this position will go to Grade 12 students, but in some cases Grade 11 students will be considered.
The applicant for this role must be a current member of the music leadership team.
Responsible for taking detailed notes from meetings and ensuring that everyone completes assigned tasks.
Must be highly organized and self-motivated.
Is the public face of the music department.
Responsible for advertising all music events. This includes creating publicity materials (posters, brochures, etc.) and making announcements.
The role includes updating the music department website.
Provides media releases to newspapers to promote upcoming events and highlight successes.
Responsible for working in collaboration with teachers, parents, and students to facilitate fundraising opportunities.
Must demonstrate excellent initiative and possess strong communication skills.
Responsible for the filing and organization of the department’s sheet music collection.
Responsible for the distribution and collection of all sheet music.
Responsible for leading the crew during set-up and take-down of music events.
Must have a working knowledge of the gear that we use or demonstrate a willingness to learn.
Candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills.
Manages and maintains percussion equipment
Trains percussionists on correct use of equipment
Pack percussion for tours in coordination with stage manager.
Responsible for keeping track of instrument assignments
Additionally, this student will be required to complete regular audits of instruments and ensure they are in good working condition.
Responsible for scheduling the department day to day tasks
Will consult with the event crew coordinator to schedule event crew members to facilitate school events
Responsible for communicating music department initiatives to grade nine music students.
Help to organize and plan special events for grade nine students as a part of the music leadership team.
Part of the council with no fixed portfolio. It is likely you would be assigned a specific portfolio soon after joining.
Work with school staff, student council, and community members to facilitate the set-up and a/v requests of large events
Help train the event crew
Schedule event crew team members in collaboration with the Operations Coordinator
Help to run and manage events.
Not required to attend all meetings but will be called prior to events to assist the stage manager in their role.
Support Program Expansion: Develop and share ideas that help expand the music program and strengthen its presence within the school community.
Plan & Coordinate Events: Work with council members to organize and execute recruitment-based events, including brainstorming new initiatives and improving existing ones.
