Instruments at GBDSS are provided for all of our students. It is expected that students will take good care of them and provide regular cleaning.
All instruments checked out will be fully catalogued, including any damage, before being taken by students. The school is responsible for general upkeep and maintenance, but any damages sustained while in the possession of the student is the responsibility of the student. Repairs must be completed by an approved technician. Do NOT attempt to make any repairs at home.
It is recommended for students who check out a school instrument to take out an insurance policy for the value of the instrument.
Instrument Purchase Reminder - Every now and then we hear about parents/guardians who consider purchasing an instrument for their child. We just wanted to provide a brief warning that many of the cheap instruments available through online retailers and even some traditional music stores will be of poor quality. These instruments are likely to last only a matter of months and would be a poor investment. No matter what the product description says, please be careful if you are considering purchasing an instrument. We included this information not because we are expecting that you may purchase an instrument (most people don’t and the school is more than happy to lend our instruments), but every now and then we see a large chunk of money wasted through a well-meaning gift. If you are thinking about purchasing an instrument, please contact us first and we would be more than happy to guide you through this process.
